Students in Foster Care

Foster care is defined as the placement of a student by the Children’s Division into 24-hour out-of-home care away from their parent(s) or guardian(s).
This may include: 
  • Foster family homes
  • Foster homes of relatives
  • Transitional or emergency shelters
  • Residential facilities
  • Child care institutions
  • Group homes
  • Pre-adoptive homes
How We Support Students in Foster Care:
  • Enrollment and school transition support
  • Collaboration with caregivers and caseworkers
  • Academic monitoring and advocacy
  • Social-emotional support and counseling
  • Connection to school and community resources
  • Assistance reducing barriers to attendance and engagement

DeLaSalle High School is dedicated to supporting all students, including students in foster care. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) helps ensure educational stability and school continuity for students experiencing foster care placement.

DeLaSalle works to support students in foster care through enrollment assistance, coordination with caregivers and caseworkers, academic and social-emotional support, and connections to school and community resources.
To start the enrollment process please complete an online new student enrollment form found under the enrollment tab and provide the Foster Care Placement Letter with the requested enrollment documents.
